Teeth whitening

22 02 2008

Generally, there are differences between cosmetic and professional teeth whitening. The differences are quite obvious in terms of the applied techniques, prices and of course, the quality and durability of the results.

There is professional teeth whitening at the dentist’s and professional whitening at home. However, before deciding on any of the options, you should have your teeth examined. This will enable your dentist to see if there are some teeth fillings, so the dentist can accordingly advise you about some problems and hear your wishes. It is important to highlight that dental fillings and crowns cannot be whitened. What your dentist can do in such cases is change them after the whitening.

The treatment: The first step is to clean the dental plaque. After the initial therapy, it is time to move on to the laser bleaching, which is performed two or three times, in the intervals of 32 seconds. If necessary, this treatment can be repeated on the same day. The therapy is not finished, but you continue with the bleaching at home, as the dentist provides you with the bleaching set with the instructions for use.

The results last up to six months, and then you should repeat the process or try to maintain the results by professional bleaching at home.

This is least aggressive technique, which gives very good results. Bleaching can be repeated regularly, every six months. If done in shorter intervals, special attention should be paid on the situation, in order not to avoid overbleaching, which can permanently damage the enamel.

Patients should strictly follow their dentist’s instructions, as proper dental examination and advice are of huge importance. Furthermore, it is crucial for patient to have realistic expectations, and try not to succumb to the marketing tricks by gigantic pharmaceutical companies.

Chemical peel

29 12 2007

As a medical treatment, chemical peel is usually recommended to people with a much wrinkled face. All facial furrows except characteristic ones: nasal-labial (from nose to lip angles) can be successfully removed by chemical peel. Also, sagging facial skin can be dealt with by chemical peel. In these cases it is also recommended that the patient consider a face and neck lift. Chemical peel is a procedure whereby chemical agents are used to remove the superficial skin layer. The target effect of the chemical peel is rejuvenation. This is the only procedure in which chemical agents are used. While penetrating deep into the skin layers and removing furrows, chemicals also incite the skin to produce its own collagen. Because of that, the rejuvenation effect is long lasting.
Chemical peel gives a youthful look to the face. This is the most successful method of smoothing facial furrows. As a procedure, chemical peel can also be successfully combined with a facelift. Lifts serve to tighten the skin and subcutaneous structures on the face and neck. After a successful facelift, the face gains firm contours and a youthful appearance. Chemical peel is used to remove small furrows that are in the skin structure and cannot be removed by the facelift. The rejuvenation effect of a facelift is enhanced by the chemical peel procedure. Chemical peel is done under local anesthetic and is painless.

Breast lift

29 12 2007

With breast lift, sagging breasts are elevated to their normal position. Breast augmentation can also be done, if required by the patient, in conjunction with breast uplift (enlargement is done by inserting implants). The small, vertical incision technique is generally considered to be the best because of the following advantages: best aesthetic effect, quicker recovery, the operation is technically pretty simple and it takes less time than the classic operative techniques. The small vertical incision technique has the best aesthetic effect because it leaves minimal scaring on the breasts. Breast uplift is performed under general anesthesia.

Face lift

28 12 2007

Face lift is the most sophisticated and, at the same time, a very difficult type of cosmetic surgery which depends on the surgeon’s experience and skill as well as patient’s cooperation and patience while recovering. Deep Lift is the most effective technique used in facelift surgery. It has been in use for 20 years. The operation is very demanding for the surgeon but the results are remarkable. That operation aims not only at tightening the skin but the facial muscles are lifted back into their natural position. This gives the face a more natural look and the effect of rejuvenation is optimized, lasting much longer than the effect that can be achieved by a classic lift. There are additional minor surgeries such as forehead lift, blepharoplasty, chemical peel, mechanical dermabrasio as well as wrinkle therapy (treated by injection) that can significantly enhance the effects of a facelift.

Male breast reduction - reduction of gynecomastia

28 12 2007

Male breasts can be significantly enlarged, which can present a serious aesthetic and psychological problems for the person affected. The result of the accumulation of fatty tissue is that male breasts are significantly enlarged and look like female breasts - gynecomastia. Male breast reduction can be successfully achieved by cosmetic surgery.
An incision is made on the very edge of the areola, and the glandular or fatty tissue is sucked out through the small incision, which is completely unnoticeable when healed after the operation. If too big, male nipples can also be reduced during this operation.
Male breast reduction is performed under general anesthesia.

Breast augmentation – Breast enlargement

27 12 2007

Breast augmentation is considered to be relatively minor but it is a very effective cosmetic operation. By inserting the latest high quality implants, from reputable manufactures, desired breast enlargement can be easily achieved.
Silicone implants are soft and cannot easily be detected by touching or pressing on the breast. It is important to realize that patients can nurse without any difficulty, after having an implant, and that the breast remains accessible for all medical examinations, because the implant is placed bellow the breast-gland or below the breast muscle. The incision can be made in the armpit, near the nipple or below the breast. Considering these locations, the scar is not visible after the operation. Breast augmentation is done under general anesthetic. The results of breast augmentation procedure are noticeable immediately and the patients are instantly very satisfied with it.

Dental prosthetics

27 12 2007

The wide area of cosmetic dentistry includes the replacement of missing teeth, treatment and fixing of the existing teeth, together with aesthetic and functional corrections. Cosmetic dentistry primarily refers to dental prosthetics, i.e. implantology.

Dental prosthetics, as a part of dentistry, deals with replacement of missing teeth, aesthetic correction of the existing teeth (teeth deformities, uneven teeth…) etc. Basically, the improvement of the function and aesthetic look of teeth, which leads to a higher quality of one’s lifestyle, in terms of beauty and health.

There are two basic options in dental prosthetics: removable and fixed prosthetics.

Fixed dental prosthetics includes crowns and bridges, which are fixed in your mouth and not removable. There are porcelain crowns and bridges, and you can choose between all porcelain and porcelain fused to metal. Porcelain fused to metal crowns and bridges have a metal structure, over which porcelain is baked (the metal part is not visible). These teeth are completely adequate and satisfying both aesthetically and functionally. All porcelain, i.e. cercon ceramics is aesthetically better than porcelain fused to metal, and we use it as an alternative to ceramic veneers. Aesthetically, all porcelain crowns are just like veneers and their biocompatibility is excellent. Also, unlike veneers, they are cemented classically which makes them less sensitive to falling off or cracking. For more information, you can visit www.cercon-smart-ceramics.com.

The prosthetic process has different phases. Your first visit includes a thorough examination, consultation and an X-ray analysis of your teeth. Here, the plan and procedure that is best for your individual case is determined. During your second and third visit (depends on the extent of the work) the teeth are abraded and prepared for the impression. At this point, you also get temporary replacement bridges that reduce the pain after the abrading. While waiting for the final phase of the process, the replacement bridges also aesthetically replace the abraded teeth. During the next visit, you can choose the metal or cercon, and decide on the colour. Finally, in the last visit, you try the prosthesis on, its colur and shape is checked, and if it is satisfactory, you can have it cemented. This process takes 7 to 12 days, depending on whether the material is cercon ceramics or porcelain fused to metal.

Breast reduction

15 12 2007

The ideal breast reduction operation would be one that formed beautiful and youthful breasts with no scar. A new surgical technique for breast reduction, using a small vertical incision resulting in minimal scaring, is now available. The new surgical method for breast reduction using a very small vertical cut brings us pretty close to that ideal. With new surgical techniques for breast reduction a small vertical incision is placed near the nipple and is not noticeable because it is on the areola (area of dark pigmentation). The scar does not go over any natural breast crease and is hardly noticeable. With this new technique, especially if it is combined with breast hydroliposuction, there is a shorter recovery period and the risk of postoperative complications is reduced. The operation is, technically, relatively simple and takes less time than classic methods. This procedure gives great results. The key advantages of breast reduction are good cosmetic results, technical simplicity and reduced risk of complications.

Dental implants

14 12 2007

The wide area of cosmetic dentistry includes the replacement of missing teeth, treatment and fixing of the existing teeth, together with aesthetic and functional corrections. With the term cosmetic dentistry we primarily refer to dental prosthetics, i.e. implantology.

Dental implants are titanium screws placed in the upper or lower jaw bone. They act as the teeth roots, so they are used as an anchor for crowns, bridges or prosthesis.

The dental implant procedure consists of two phases. The first phase is surgical (placing dental implants) while the second one is prosthetic (placing prosthetic replacement). Therefore, your treatment is usually divided into two phases, meaning two visits. During the first visit, which includes a thorough examination with consultation, and dental X-ray analysis, the plan and procedure that fit best for individual case are being determined. The next step includes implantation, i.e. the placement of dental implants. It usually takes 10 – 14 weeks for osseointegration to be complete, and once completed, the second, i.e. final phase of dental implant procedure is reached, which includes dental prosthetics. The prosthetic phase is the same as in the classical prosthetic work. The first phase takes 5 to 7 days, and the second phase lasts 7 to 12 days.

Today, dental implants are universally accepted and thus more frequently used as dental replacements, which are, with the rapid improvement of technology, becoming better (the fact that, at present, the implantation success rate is more than 95 % speaks for itself). Once placed, the implant preserves the bone structure and it can often be used as an anchor for different dental work. Dental implant procedure is generally minimally invasive and completely painless, and the postoperative recovery period is short.

Eyelid surgery - blepharoplasty

28 11 2007

As the years go by, skin looses its elasticity and firmness, especially in the region of eyelids, as it is very thin in that area. Slowly but surely, the eyelids change. Wrinkles, furrows and fatty pads appear, making the eyes and face look old and tired. Excess skin and fatty tissue on the eyelids can only be removed by a surgical procedure called BLEPHAROPLASTY. Blepharoplasty is considered to be a minor and very efficient operation, with little or no risk to the patient, if performed by an experienced cosmetic surgeon. Excess skin is removed with precision in accordance to a plan based on previously prepared measurements. Using radio-surgery to perform blepharoplasty makes very accurate incisions, without any damage to the surrounding tissue. That way optimal aesthetic effect is ensured and the recovery is accelerated. The final result of the blepharoplasty is an obvious rejuvenation. The eyes look younger, bigger and their natural beauty becomes more prominent. Eyelid surgery is often done in conjunction with face lifting in order to maximize the rejuvenation effect.
Eyelid surgery is done under local enhanced anesthetic (patient is in a light sleep).
